What this check does
When a site will not load, the first question is whether the fault is at the site or on your side. This tool answers that by requesting the site from our server, which sits on a different network from you.
- Up here, down for you: the fault is on your side. See the list below.
- Down here too: the site, its host or its DNS has a problem. Nothing on your side will fix it.
"Up" means the server answered with an HTTP status below 500 within 8 seconds. "Down" means no answer, a failed connection, or a status of 500 or above.
If it is up here but not for you
- Reload with the cache skipped: Ctrl + F5 on Windows, Cmd + Shift + R on a Mac.
- Open the site in a private window. If it works, an extension or cookie is the cause.
- Try another network, such as your phone with wifi off.
- Restart your router. This clears its DNS cache.
- Switch your DNS server to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
- Turn off any VPN or proxy. Some sites block them.
If it is your own site
A one-off check tells you about this minute. To hear about the next outage before your customers do, the check has to run all day.
PULSX requests your site every 60 seconds, tries again before it counts a failure, and alerts you by email, Slack, Discord, webhook or phone push. It is free for 20 monitors, with no card.
