What you pay to start
Pingdom gives you 30 days to try it, then the smallest plan is £14 a month, or £145.92 for a year paid up front. PULSX costs nothing for 20 monitors, and there is no card on file. If you outgrow 20, 3 packs take you to 50 monitors for £8.50 a month.
What both do equally well
Both check a URL every minute, both read the SSL certificate on HTTPS checks, and both give you a public status page. If those three things are all you use Pingdom for, you are paying for something you can get free.
What only Pingdom does
Pingdom can run a scripted visit through a login, a search or a checkout (transaction checks), measure how fast a page loads, and report on real visitors with real user monitoring. It checks from more than 100 locations and can text you. PULSX does none of these: it checks from one location and alerts by email, Slack, Discord, webhook and Android push.
What else is in the PULSX free plan
Heartbeat monitors for cron jobs and backups, TCP port, DNS and ping monitors, on-call rotations with escalation, incidents with postmortems, an audit log and 25 team seats. None of these depend on a plan size, because there is only one plan.
